He was graduated in 1873 at Brasenose College, Oxford; Matric 9 June 1870, BA 1873. He was a member of the Montgomeryshire Yeomanry. Sub Lt in Oct 1872, Lt in June 1873, Capt in February 1878, Major in June 1889 and retired in 1892. He retained his rank. circa 1875.2 He was entered as Barrister at law at Inner Temple on 26 January 1875. He married Isabella Hargreaves, daughter of James Hargreaves and Ann Isabella (?), on 20 July 1876.1 As of 1881, John Marshall Dugdale lived at Hermitage Hall, Cranage, Cheshire.3 He took over Llwyn from his father who retired to London. Event recorded in Llwyn Visitors Book. in 1889. He was shown as living on his own means. Also a Magistrate in 1891.4 As of April 1901, John Marshall Dugdale lived at Llwyn, Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire, Wales; 10 Servants listed on census.5 He lived in 1911 at Llwyn, Montgomeryshire; 11 servants retired barrister, farming own land.6 He died on 30 October 1918 at Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire, at age 67.1,7 His estate was probated on 2 January 1919; Charles Tertius, William Marshall and Arthur Price executors.
